To complete their training, participants to EDHEC’s Executive MBA in Lille and Paris carry out an individual consulting project concurrently with the last months of the program. This strategy work enables these managers and entrepreneurs to enhance what they have learnt at EDHEC, all the while preparing for the next step of their professional life.
For this project, participants must formulate a strategic recommendation in response to a real issue submitted by a partner company: an entry into a new market, a business model change or a digital transformation issue. Each chooses a subject in line with their professional project:

Just like for any actual consulting mission, participants begin by making a diagnosis, then develop a global strategic vision before formulating practical recommendations. A transdisciplinary exercise that mobilizes all the fields explored during the EMBA program: strategy of course, but also marketing or finance. EDHEC professors support them all along the way. To give advice, but not only:

At the end of the year, besides the formulation of a written recommendation, participants defend their strategy before an EDHEC professor and a representative from the partner company.
Most participants work on a subject submitted by their current employer (Auchan, Dell, L’Oréal…) who, in return, can finance part of their training. Others seize this opportunity to develop a start-up project. Such is the case of Frédérick Wallart, an engineer by training for whom the EMBA marks a turning point towards entrepreneurship, after twenty years of industrial experience. For his Consulting Project, he wrote the full business plan for Tispego, his consulting firm project specializing in “security culture”:
“This consulting mission is like tying one’s shoes before the real race, the one that starts just after!”
As for Etienne Thépenier, he developed his own technical software publishing start-up, Metalfox, and refined his entrepreneurial profile:
“The Consulting Project made me realize how essential it is for a manager or entrepreneur to be open to the opinion of others and to take a step back from time to time, to make sure you are staying on course.”
A true springboard to their post-EMBA plans, this project completes the training and reinforces the participants in their choices of professional development, whether it is within their current company or in an entrepreneurial perspective.

You taught strategy and entrepreneurship at the Waterford Institute of Technology, Ireland, and coached many Irish entrepreneurs. Why did you choose to join EDHEC?
I was attracted by EDHEC’s unique teaching approach to entrepreneurship, fed by research but anchored in practice. I also appreciate that EDHEC is part of a very dynamic ecosystem: it works closely with former students as well as with local and international economic players, which is a real strength.
What is your Teaching Philosophy for Entrepreneurship?
Entrepreneurship, as I teach it, is rooted in practice. I focus on Design Thinking and Lean Start-up methodologies, which are key tools for today’s entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs. Emphasizing fast iteration and frequent consumer insight, these hypothesis-driven innovation methods enable you to generate ideas that match the expectations of your market, and to innovate with more certainty. Pursuing a Lean Start-up approach to create a new product, for example, means that you will draw from customer feedback to build a first prototype, then test it with consumers, make changes based on the results, test it again… Whether you are starting a new venture or working within an established company, this iterative process allows you to make quick adjustments, to innovate faster and reduce the cost of failure.

What is your Teaching Method?
Only practice can make you an entrepreneur, so my approach can be summed up in two words: practice and interactivity. I encourage my students to be creative and to experiment, through workshops, exercises and team-based games. The international dimension is also key for me: participants to this new course will soak up best practices from all over the world, with an eye on Silicon Valley and other world-class innovation hubs such as London or Berlin.
What can the business leaders and executives participating to the EMBA expect from this course?
Besides mastering the Lean Start-up method, participants will develop their own “innovation tool kit”. They will learn, among other things, to design business and revenue models for innovative products and to prepare an investor pitch, a key step for any entrepreneur. More generally, they will learn to make pragmatic decisions when things do not work and to experiment with different scenarios in a cost-effective manner. It is an opportunity for them to strengthen their leadership and entrepreneurial skills and to maximize the potential of their business.
From 16 to 20 January, the 75 participants of EDHEC’s Executive MBA were in Kuala Lumpur for a Business Trip entitled "Exploring Malaysian Capitalism." This gave senior executives, business leaders and entrepreneurs an opportunity to compare different business environments and to expand their views on business and the world.

The professionals from EDHEC’s Executive MBA in Paris and Lille took part in themed conferences and met a wide range of business players: recent Malaysian businesses (AirAsia…), firms located there for many years (Petronas…), French firms present in the country (Décathlon…), as well as the innovative MaGIC, a start-up incubator. The aim was to give the participants an all-round view of Malaysia’s thriving and diversified economy, widely considered as one of the new "Asian Tigers".

For Denis Dauchy, PhD, Professor of Strategy and Director of EDHEC’s EMBA programme: “one of the specific features of the Malaysian ecosystem is its multicultural dimension. Observing how these businesses operate helps us to understand the link between culture and business.” In effect, the diversity of the Malaysian population, which plays host to large Chinese and Indian communities, is reflected in the country’s business life: the organisations have different perspectives and practices, and cultures coexist in a climate of mutual respect. This model challenges the participants’ views of business to help them evolve: does the secret of an agile enterprise lie in leadership informed by multiple cultural facets?
According to Denis Dauchy, this experience abroad offers the professionals a unique opportunity: "It helps them to discover new ways of managing a business and gives them a better grasp of the challenges of globalisation." A second business trip, this time to San Francisco, is planned later this year in June.
Following a strategy seminar "learning expedition" in London on new marketing tends, the SNCF High Potentials traveled Paris for a 3-day seminar on "Finance for decision-making", combining workshops, conferences, debates and personal accounts of startup experiences.
With the assistance of Philippe Foulquier, Professor of Finance at EDHEC, each of the participants drew up a financial analysis of their activities in terms of value creation, and assessed the impact of their commercial, operational, strategic and financial decisions on the Group’s performance.
The also had the opportunity to acquaint themselves with the logic of value development and financing at the NUMA accelerator, and to learn more about the experiences of remarkable entrepreneurs like Thomas Serval, multi entrepreneur and former Executive of Microsoft and Google, and Jérôme Callec, founder of the Linkeo agency.
